According to Reddit user Locercus, a small hacker group has found vulnerabilites is Multicraft and WHMCS, giving themselves access to entire host networks. This access has already been used to hack major multiple hosts and cause chaos on servers.
At this stage, we haven’t been able to confirm this report, however Locersus has posted a series of screenshots which seem to show two players being opped (made operator) by the server, which suggests the console was used. The two players then pretend to be staff with the hosting company, before stating that “we hacked into [the] mainframe and have full access to everything”.
This story is developing, and we’ll keep you informed as more news comes out. As it stands, we’re not sure if this is an isolated incident or not, but Locernus’ comments suggest there is a lot more at stake.
What You Can Do
If you’re a server admin, and your server is running on Multicraft, there are a few things you can do.
- Make regular
- Save you backups in a different location to your server
- Make sure you have a strong password for your Multicraft login
Finally, just to be clear – this does not affect Singleplayer world, LAN games or Minecraft Realms.
